9.2 ● Assembly Occupancy

A building, or a part of a building, that is used for the gathering of persons for civic, political, travel, religious, social, educational, recreational or like purposes or for the consumption of food or drink is an assembly occupancy and requires a retrofit.

Examples of assembly occupancies are; art galleries, auditoria, beverage establishments, bingo halls, clubs, community halls, dance halls, enclosed arenas, exhibition halls, gymnasia, halls in religious establishments (excluding areas of worship), lecture halls, lodge rooms, movie theatres, museums, opera houses, restaurants, television studios, and theatres.

A building that is regulated by the Education Act or the Ministry of Colleges and Universities Act is exempt.
